No less than N265m public funds have been allegedly wasted in about a month as 58 top politicians visited the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the UK.

No less than N265m public funds have been allegedly wasted in about a month as 58 top politicians visited the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the UK.

This revelation was published in an infographic by a frontline nongovernmental organisation, Connected Development (CODE).

Recently, Tinubu had been welcomed back into Nigeria by his political allies and followers after spending months in the United Kingdom to undergo knee surgery and subsequent physiotherapy.

CODE said, “sadly, this sum can construct 22 units of classrooms and can sink over 200 borehole facilities across the country”.

According to the infographic as compiled by Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, x-rayed how top fifty-eight political leaders wasted N263 million on visiting Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the United Kingdom.

Associated costs of trips to the UK

Breakdown of the costs associated with trips to the UK includes flight tickets with first-class costing N5m and business class costing N4m while average hotel per night cost between N90,000 to N120,000 per person.

Timeline of visits to Tinubu

On August 7, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State visited.

On August 11, it was the turn of Abiodun Faleke, a member of the house of representatives from Lagos state.

The President, Muhammadu Buhari visited on August 12 while on August 18, the likes of Senator Kashim Shettima, Muiz Banire, and Hon. Usman Zannah visited.

On August 25, governors of Ondo and Ekiti states, Rotimi Akeredolu and Kayode Fayemi as well as Kolade Alabi who is the ALGON national president, and Rasaq Ajala, ALGON Secretary in Lagos state visited.

On August 29, it was the turn of Tayo Ajide, chief of staff to Lagos state governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor, Lagos state.

Others include Gboyega Soyonwo, deputy chief of staff to Lagos state governor, and Tokunbo Wahab, special adviser to Lagos state governor on education.

In September, the gale of visitors shifted to major members of the national assembly as Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives visited on September 3 while Wamako and Abdulaziz Yari visited on September 8.

Others include Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Adeola Solomon, Senator Adelere Oriolowo and Senator Mohammed Sani visited on September 10.

On September 16, governor Ganduje of Kano state, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’Agandi, and Mohammed A. Ganduje visited the former Lagos state governor in London.

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state also visited Tinubu in London on September 20.

It is also expected each of these top politicians who visited Ahmed Bola Tinubu went with one or two of their aides thereby increasing the cost of the trip to the United Kingdom on public funds to see their national leader.
