ABUJA – The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court says the former minister, Kemi Adeosun does not need to have the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate to hold a political office.
Following the NYSC certificate gate, Ms. Adeosun resigned from Buhari’s administration and relocated to the UK in 2018.
Justice Taiwo Taiwo, while delivering his ruling on the originating summons with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/303/21 brought by Wole Olanipekun, on behalf of the former minister, held that the NYSC certificate based on the constitution was not a mandatory requirement to hold a political office in the country.
There’s no information on if President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime or the police will sue or has filed a lawsuit against Ms. Adeosun for the forgery of NYSC exemption certificate.
Garba Shehu, president’s media aide, in April, said the position of Mr Buhari’s regime on the extremist views of Isa Pantami would have been different if the communication minister was involved in a certificate forgery like the ex-minister of finance.
Mr. Shehu said Mr Pantami’s extremist views and ties with terrorist groups were a lesser crime than certificate forgery, Peoples Gazette reports.
The president’s aide said, “If Pantami had forged a certificate before coming into office, the attitude (of the presidency) would have been different.”
