Medical laboratory council inducts 94 students of Achievers University

A total of ninety-four (94) medical laboratory students of Achievers University, Owo have been inducted into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.


A total of ninety-four (94) medical laboratory students of Achievers University, Owo have been inducted into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

The induction session was performed by Dr Tosan Erhabor, the CEO/ Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, who was represented by Dr. Muftau Azeez, a Director in the Council.

The event was held on Thursday in Owo, the main campus of the university.

The 94 students in the College of Basic Health Sciences who recently graduated took the oath presided by the registrar.

“I solemnly pledge myself to the service of humanity as a medical laboratory scientist” as they were inducted and admitted into the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association of Nigeria (MLSAN), the foremost trade association for medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria.

Speaking on the lecture theme “The Role of Medical Science in Disease Surveillance in the 21st century”, the guest lecturer, Prof. Wellington Oyibo established the critical role the medical laboratory scientists played especially in today’s context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Medical Laboratory scientists are on the frontline in disease surveillance as they interact with the low and high-risk group of persons, fluids, including the environment”, Prof Oyibo said.

He congratulated the university management, guardians, and inductees for this great achievement.

“The teaching, practical sessions, seminars, project supervision, examination, committees, etc., and the standards that were integrated and upheld in the course of your training have culminated in a success that we now celebrate. Thank you all so very much”, the guest lecturer said.

Abdulrahman AbdulBasit Opeyemi, the winner of the Professor Maisie Etukudo award for overall best inductee. He graduated with a GPA of 4.76 from the Department of Medical Microbiology.

Mr Opeyemi praised the university for providing him the space to thrive and excel and acknowledged the huge impact of mentorship on his journey.

“My passion for academic excellence was noticed and nurtured by Professor A.O Hassan, this was the turning point in my studentship journey…”, he said.

Other awardees include Oyeromi Blessing Oluwatosin, best-behaved inductee, Fagbemi Ayotomide, Rufai Temitayo Fadhilat, Adegboye Adeetan Rukayat – all won the best inductees in Histopathology, Hematology and Chemical Pathology. Seven of the inductees graduated with first-class honors.

Earlier in his welcome address, the vice-chancellor, Prof. S.O Aje charged the new inductees to continue on the path of excellence that the university has instilled in them.

“Do not rest on your oars and be good ambassadors of the excellence that Achievers is known for.” He said.

He also highlighted several achievements of the University since its inception. Recent among them was the awarding of two students of the institution as the “Best Overall students in 2020 and 2021” by the Physiological Society, United Kingdom.

Also, the founder, Dr. Bode Ayorinde was filled with gratitude and encomiums for inductees, staff, and parents in recognition of the roles they each have played in the successes the university is recording.

He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to her three core values of knowledge, integrity, and leadership.

The event is part of the lineup of activities to commemorate the 11th Convocation and 14th Anniversary of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State.
