By Damilola Adeyemo

AKURE – Amid Covid-19 Spike, the federal government has ordered both nursery, primary , and secondary schools, and universities to resume today, with some laid down rules to curb the spread of the virus.

In compliance to Covid-19 guidelines laid down by the federal government for school resumption, TECHNOCRAT MEDIA has taken its time to monitor the compliance of schools to the rules in Akure, the Ondo state capital on Monday.

Among schools visited are Saint Louis Nursery and Primary school, and Oyemekun Grammar school, Akure.

In a chat with the Headmistress of the school, Rev. Sister Justina, she made it known that there was provision of water for hand washing before entering the school, hand sanitizer, social distancing in all classes, temperature checking machine at the school’s check points, and an isolation center.

She further stated that was compulsory for all pupils to put on their school customized face shield (face mask) which is made available in the school.

Meanwhile a visit to Oyemekun Grammar School brought up so many questions if the Ondo State government cared about the pupils of the state school.

Physical assessment at the popular public secondary school showed that there was no provisions for Covid-19 guidelines: no hand sanitizers, no face masks for the pupils as well as lack of social distancing among the pupils and teachers.

This is calling on the Ondo State government to look into the compliance of covid-19 rules for schools to comply to as to help prevent the spreading of the virus among students as the case of Oyemekun Grammar School may be the state of some major public schools in the State.
